According to its website, Soho South Cafe is reopening on Monday, Nov. 25. The popular lunch spot on Liberty Street will now also serve dinner Thurs.-Sat. and have a full bar. The restaurant was recently acquired by Daniel Reed Hospitality, which also owns the nearby restaurant Public Kitchen & Bar and Local 11 Ten just south of Forsyth Park.
Soho South Cafe has some really dedicated customers who seem especially interested in specific dishes staying on the menu. If you’re one of those folks or if you’re just curious, click here for the menu on the restaurant’s website.
The Gaslight Group recently chose not to renew the lease for Blue Turtle Bistro in Midtown, but will obviously continuing to operate The 5 Spot, B. Matthew’s, Blowin’ Smoke, and Abe’s on Lincoln.
Betty Bombers — one of my favorite spots — recently expanded the menu to include more burgers, more flavored fries, and other items. The prices went up too, as regulars will note, but Betty Bombers is still cheaper than many other options — and it’s still one of the few latenight spots that has such good, consistent food.
I recently wrote a column about Dept. 7 East, which shares space with the retail area for The Tea Room on Broughton Street. I’m looking forward to Dept. 7 East adding dinner service.
I had not eaten at Fire Street Food on Perry Street in a while, but a friend and I had an early, lovely, inexpensive dinner there on Sunday. The place was bustling when we got there about 5:15 (more like late lunch than early dinner!). We split the yellow curry ($7.95), which was good but needed some additional hot sauce, and an order of Sean’s Ribs ($9.95), which I can’t recommend highly enough.
