T-SPLOST apparently headed for loss in Coastal Georgia

UPDATE: T-SPLOST was soundly defeated in the 10-county Coastal Region.

As I write this at almost exactly 10 p.m., the T-SPLOST for the 10-county coastal region is headed to defeat.

The Secretary of State’s Office has the vote 58.4 percent no and 41.6 percent yes.

But the breakdown of county results looks even worse — at least what I can find so far.

With 61 of 89 precincts reporting in Chatham County, T-SPLOST is losing badly 57.1 percent to 42.9 percent. I estimated that the referendum needed at least 60 percent in Chatham to have a chance of passage.

With all the vote in from Glynn County, T-SPLOST lost by 4,800 votes — 67 percent to 33 percent.

With 10 of 16 precincts in Bulloch County, T-SPLOST is losing by about 90 votes.

With all precincts reporting from Effingham County, T-SPLOST has lost by about 750 votes — 55.6% to 44.4%

It’s pretty clear that the tax is going to lose.

It also looks likely that the referendum will narrowly pass in a couple of other districts.

More later.
