Tropical Storm Beryl stronger, better organized as it nears coast

Beryl officially became a tropical storm in the last couple of hours, and it’s now a fairly impressive storm in satellite imagery.

“Rupert Grint has signed up to star in CBGB, a new film about the legendary New York venue. Grint will play Cheetah Chrome, the guitarist for the Dead Boys, a punk band who played a prominent role during the club’s rise.”

Beryl is headed for landfall late Sunday or early Monday somewhere along the Georgia/Florida state line.

The National Hurricane Center’s 8 p.m. update contained little new from previous updates all day. Beryl is still expected to hit the southeast coast somewhere near the Georgia/Florida border late Sunday night.

Beryl has not yet become a tropical storm (merely subtropical right now) and is not forecast to become a hurricane. But it could have some significant impacts on the southeast coast over the next few days. Landfall is expected late Sunday.

I’m not going to be posting about this with every official update, but all folks along the Georgia coast, the southern portion of South Carolina, and the northern part of Florida should be preparing for a potentially serious storm. Beryl is NOT currently predicted to reach hurricane strength, but tropical storms and depressions can be pretty nasty.

Near 100% chance of tropical cyclone forming over Memorial Day weekend

There’s a near 100% chance of a tropical or subtropical cyclone forming off the Atlantic coast sometime this weekend. If she reaches tropical storm strength, which seems likely, she’ll be christened Beryl.
