A couple of friends of mine were in New Orleans today. My sister, a geology professor of Tulane, drove them to the Lower Ninth Ward and other areas to show them how and where the levees failed. So NOLA was on my mind as I cruised the internet.
And then I saw that the huge lineup has been announced for next year’s Jazz Fest.
I’ve never been to Jazz Fest. Those two weekends always coincide with the end of the semester at Armstrong, which makes leaving a little tricky.
The lineup includes Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, John Mayer, Al Green, Trombone Shorty, Bon Iver, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Iron & Wine, Dianne Reeves, Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Givers. And that’s just a handful of acts — on the first weekend (April 27 to 29).
The second weekend includes Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Levon Helm Band with special guest Mavis Staples, Steve Earle, The Neville Brothers, The Eagles, and Foo Fighters.
You can find the full list here. Nola.com has more coverage here.
Tickets and other info can be found at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival website.
Maybe this year I’ll get there.
