It was a gorgeous day on Tuesday at the Bacon Park tennis complex, where Armstrong’s women’s and men’s tennis teams both defeated Flagler to advance to the round of 16 in the NCAA Division II championships.
In an afternoon match, the women made quick work of their opponents (I had to leave after the doubles). In a morning match, the men had to work a bit harder but still won 5-1.

Readers of my column and/or this blog know that I’m regularly and annoyingly suggesting that Savannahians show up for more public events, especially free or inexpensive ones that showcase positive aspects of our city and region. I know that many people are constrained by work, family, and other commitments — and some tennis fans might have had their time monopolized by the Challenger tournament this week on Skidaway Island. Still, it sure would be great to see more people show up to watch high-caliber tennis like that on display anytime Armstrong’s teams play. Both the men’s and women’s teams have solid chances of advancing deep into the NCAA tournament again this year. The women are seeking a fourth consecutive national title, and the men are seeking their third in four years.

To view the pics in this gallery, I suggest clicking on the icon in the lower right corner so that you can go full screen. Then you can click, drag, scroll, use the directional arrows, etc. Other than some obvious cropping and minimal adjustment of the exposure, these are pretty much what came out of my Nikon.
