Garden & Gun keeps some numbers hidden as Savannah faces Franklin (where?) in the Greatest Southern Towns Bracket

OK, it’s silly, but for a variety of reasons, lots of us have been following Garden & Gun’s Greatest Southern Towns Bracket over the last few days. I’ll likely say more about some of the reasons in my City Talk column on Sunday.

It’s just a contest that pits Southern towns against each other round by round until one winner emerges with the honor. So far, Savannah has already beaten a number of other towns that had to be considered pretty strong contenders: Key West, Thomasville, Charleston, and Asheville. Now Savannah is in the finals against Franklin, TN (which I knew so little about that I had to look it up).

In the previous rounds, the page for voting kept a running tally of the percentage for each of the contestants. It was pretty interesting on Tuesday afternoon and evening to watch Savannah surge from barely behind to a relatively comfortable win over Asheville.

But for the final round, there is no percentage being displayed, and here’s how the rules now read:

*To ensure accurate results, we are limiting the voting to one vote per IP address per hour. (Note: If you’re in an office or school with a shared IP address and someone has already voted that hour, you’ll have to wait until the next hour to vote.) If you’re having difficulty voting due to the IP address limits, we recommend voting from a mobile device using a mobile Internet connection or from your home computer. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Well, I don’t know if accuracy is even possible, but . . .

There are also a few interesting comments on Twitter about the contest. Garden & Gun isn’t listing percentage totals, but here’s a tweet from early this afternoon:

And we’re not likely to get much other real time guidance about the results:

And there’s this odd message:

But they still had running percentage totals in the most recent round — the 4th round.

And what’s this about “suspicious voting”?

Savannahians should also note that Franklin would likely have to be considered “the favorite” at this point. The town is just south of Nashville, so they’re getting some big help from their bigger neighbor (the following Twitter accounts have almost 130,000 combined followers):

And:

The voting will continue until sometime on Thursday evening. Garden & Gun will send out a tweet when there’s an hour left.
