On Sunday afternoon, I drove around the future Whole Foods Market parking lot on Victory Drive just west of the Truman Parkway. I’m not sure I was supposed to be there, but the new plaza is accessible(ish) via Galway Street off Dixie Avenue. It looks like the lot still needs one final blacktopping, but it’s pretty much ready to go.
And the buildings that will house Savannah’s Whole Foods and our newest PetSmart are pretty much completed on the exterior. As you can see in the photos below — taken with a zoom from across Victory near IHOP — palms and other trees have already been planted.
To the west of that large building, there’s another commercial structure that still has substantial work remaining.
If you haven’t been following this story and rarely go down Victory, the location is on the site of the former Backus Cadillac.
PetSmart already has a sign up, but I saw nothing for Whole Foods so far. Savannah has yet to be listed on the chain’s page of stores in development, but that’s typical. The stores do not appear when leases are signed or agreements are made.
And Whole Foods Market Savannah has a Facebook page and was recently set up in Forsyth Park during Earth Day.
Whole Foods has participated in a couple of other events and has announced their first local job opening.
UPDATE: This tweet today confirming that the store is scheduled to open on August 17th:
@billdawers Are you inquiring when the store will open? If so, it is set to open on 8/17/13.
