Thoughts on starting a YouTube channel . . .

I upgraded my camera a few months ago to the Nikon D7000. There wasn’t any dramatic expense involved, about $800 for the body.

I’ve been shooting with a Nikon for several years and had already accumulated a number of pretty versatile lenses, including a 50 mm, 1.4 that has proved perfect for shooting bands and other poorly lit subjects.

The new camera has brought with it a number of other questions and problems, including some dials and settings that I haven’t had the patience to figure out yet.

I especially dithered for a while on whether to make much use of the video function. Do I really want to be another one of those people posting mediocre barroom videos of bands and shaky images of odd events?

As it turns out, I guess I do want to be one of those people, even though I haven’t figured out how to keep things in focus. We’ll see what it develops into, if anything more than just the occasional random video that I use as a supplement to photography or to give a little zest to some of my blog posts.

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve uploaded a number of videos to YouTube, all of which I’ll embed in this post. Or you can see the list of videos on the Bill Dawers YouTube channel.

So here are three videos from Savannah Stopover (The Suzan, Mac DeMarco, and Heyrocco), plus two of the Nassau County Firefighters Pipes & Drums at a private party the night before the St. Patrick’s Day parade, and the singing of “I’ll Fly Away” at the beginning of the recent Homemade Parade and Garden Party at the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home.
