[UPDATED 8/29. The text here is the same as in a regular blog post that I made.]
I’ve been waiting for the announcement of the headliner for the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and I frankly never imagined that it would be an act that I’ve never heard of.
Anyway, what do I know? Someone must be paying attention to this band.
Here’s snappy video for “I’m Not Over” that has over 1.7 million YouTube views:
And here’s “Drown”:
There are more videos and other info at the ” There’s obviously lots more news and info on the band’s website. Most of the band is from Sweden, apparently, but lead singer Chad Wolf is a Charleston native. Some major accomplishments can be found on Carolina Liar homepage:
Fueled by hit singles “I’m Not Over†and “Show Me What I’m Looking For,†Carolina Liar blanketed both radio and television, generating nationwide airplay at modern rock and alternative while also appearing in shows such as “The Vampire Diaries,†“American Idol,†“Gossip Girl,†“The Hills,†and many more (MTV actually licensed the entire album). Spotlighted as an iTunes Single of the Week, “Show Me What I’m Looking For†logged more than 600,000 downloads and “I’m Not Over†shot to No. 3 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Chart.
The LA-based band (vocalist/guitarist Chad Wolf, lead guitarist Rickard Goransson, bassist/keyboardist Johan Carlsson and drummer Peter Karlsson) toured endlessly in support of the album, sharing stages with the likes of One Republic, Rob Thomas and The Academy Is… They also performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live†and “The Ellen Degeneres Show,†played themselves in an episode of “90210,†were spotlighted as a Rolling Stone “Breaking†artist and were featured in both MTV’s “Discover & Download†and VH1’s “You Oughta Know†programs.

I wish I were as excited about this as I would be by some of the acts playing in other cities. Sugar Ray is the headliner in St. Louis. Bret Michaels is playing in Philadelphia.
With the local controversy in recent days regarding the payment — or non-payment — for bands on the course, I suspect there will be some raised eyebrows about this headliner choice.
