From Variety:

Richard Dreyfuss, Danny Masterson, Danny Glover and Jon Heder have come onboard to star in dark indie comedy “Killing Winston Jones.” […]

Story centers on a sixth-grade English teacher (played by Masterson) who’s on a mission to get the newly constructed junior high gymnasium named after his father (Dreyfuss) despite the fact that the person so memorialized must be dead — leading to a bitter contest over the naming rights with his old rival (Glover).

Moore, of course, spent some time in Savannah just recently, playing Joey Ramone in CBGB. Here’s Moore’s latest tweet to his 48 thousand followers:

If you’re interested in casting opportunities, check out First City Films, which includes an opening for Richard Dreyfus’ stand-in — “male, caucasian, five feet five inches, balding” — and extras Cocoa and Shade — “no nudity and no stripping involved . . . pole dancing experience preferred”. Huh.

CBGB has finished principal photography, and it appears that the filming has left Savannah’s public stage.

As many of you know already, I’ve been following the shoot pretty closely, and I’ve been especially interested in the effect of Twitter and other social media in allowing fans and stars to engage each other.

Twitter posts are generally public, and there’s an easy feature to embed them in websites. So I’ve selected here a more or less chronological collection of entertaining Tweets that chronicle the movie shoot.

The biggest flurry of public excitement was during Rupert Grint’s time here playing Cheetah Chrome of The Dead Boys, but you’ll see more direct engagement with the city from the movie’s stars, including Ashley Greene as Lisa Kristal, Malin Akerman as Debbie Harry, Stana Katic as Genya Ravan, Ryan Hurst as Mad Mountain, Joel David Moore as Joey Ramone, Freddy Rodriguez as Idaho, Donal Logue as Merv Ferguson, Richard de Klerk as Taxi, Peter Vack as Legs McNeil, Mickey Sumner as Patti Smith, Julian Acosta as Johnny Ramone, Steven Schub as DeeDee Ramone, and Katherine DuBois as Genya’s friend. There’s also a great pic of Taylor Hawkins at The Jinx.

I guess my first question is this: how the heck did Gil Cruz of The Jinx get his photo taken with both Taylor Hawkins and Joel David Moore? (Click here for a post about The Jinx with lots of photos from the last year.)

I continue to be pleased and a little surprised by how willing some of the CBGB stars have been to put themselves in the public eye via their own and their fans’ Twitter feeds while in Savannah for filming.

Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters plays Iggy Pop. Joel David Moore plays Joey Ramone. Julian Acosta is Johnny Ramone. Malin Ackerman plays Debbie Harry. Mickey Sumner is Patti Smith. Stana Katic is Genya Ravan.

Nice shoutouts here to Eric Culberson and Catfish Staggs.

Some more tweets dealing with CBGB, which has about ten more days of filming in Savannah.

If you’re looking for more pics, click here for a previous post with one picture of Rupert Grint as The Dead Boys’ Cheetah Chrome in CBGB, now filming in Savannah. Click here for a previous post with 16 photos from the CBGB set, and click here for a post with even more.

First, tweets from Stana Katic and Donal Logue:

And now a collection of fan tweets and posts. Rupert Grint has finished shooting and left Savannah, but he apparently continued obligingly taking photos with fans right through the end of the shoot and even on his way home. If you don’t know about the dog collar, it’s because Grint is playing The Dead Boys’ Cheetah Chrome in the film.

From the CBGB movie Facebook page:

That is a wrap on Stana katic, Estelle Harris, Justin Lee Bartha, Rupert Grint and Bronson Adams!

Welcome to Joel David Moore, Julian Acosta, Steven Schub, Dominic Bogart and Johnny Galecki! We look forward to continuing to work with all of you next week along with Alan Rickman, Donal Logue, Richard de Klerk, Freddy Rodriguez and Ashley Greene!

I didn’t see Stana Katic while she was here, but one extra that I know reported that she was the nicest one on the set. Of course, I got photos of Harris, Bartha, Grint and Adams. You can see those pics here and here.

Donal Logue and Alan Rickman on the “CBGB” set

Ashley Greene has already been in town for a bit, and it makes sense that she’d return since she has the female lead as Hilly Kristal’s daughter Lisa. I’m pretty sure Joel David Moore has already been in town for a while — perhaps he left and came back.

You can read more about the roles the other actors play on CBGB‘s IMDB page.

I had the good fortune to run into Rupert Grint yesterday (Friday) in Ellis Square, as he walked with his assistant back to their hotel. He was very pleasant, and he seemed genuinely appreciative when I thanked him for coming to Savannah. I told him my name when I shook his hand, but I did not add that I was the one who took the photos of him in a dog collar as The Dead Boys’ Cheetah Chrome. I think it’s a really smart career move for the Harry Potter actor to branch into edgier roles like this.

I also saw Freddy Rodriguez and Justin Bartha at a bar the other night.

So that leaves open the question of the Savannah presence of a couple of other key performers, including Malin Ackerman who will play Debbie Harry, Mickey Sumner who will play Patti Smith, and Taylor Hawkins who will play Iggy Pop. Maybe those actors have already been in town, but I’m not sure.
