But there’s something satisfying and seductive in the evocative lyrics, subtle instrumentation, and Danny Brewer’s beautiful vocals.

Besides Daniel has launched a PledgeMusic campaign: The Long Awaited Full-Length Record. Like other such online campaigns, supporters can help get new music produced by effectively pre-ordering the album. Pledges start at $10, which include access to all campaign updates and a digital download. (The most recent PledgeMusic campaign I supported, btw, was Anderson East’s successful effort to produce his great new album Flowers of the Broken Hearted.)

More about the project, from PledgeMusic:

Danny Brewer of Besides Daniel at The Sentient Bean in May 2012

Life comes in seasons. The time has come for me to get back into the studio again. Over the past three years, I have written around 40 songs, and in the coming months, I plan to choose 13 to record for my first “real” full-length release. Since 2009, when I released “the Clay, the Seed, the Stone” I’ve been in many places geographically, vocationally, financially, and emotionally. I’ve been able to document my journeys, joys, and hardships through my music and I’m excited to begin work on a solid full-length record with the help of some very talented musicians and producers.

And here’s Brewer talking about it:

I took some photos of Besides Daniel at two Savannah gigs in May — one at The Sentient Bean and one at Taco Abajo. A few pics:

Obviously, you can also choose to leave tips for the performers along with your downloads.

But tips aren’t required, and NoiseTrade gives acts a unique kind of exposure and the chance to grow their fanbases and email lists.

All you have to do is enter a valid email address plus your zip code, and you’ll promptly be sent a download link.

I’m downloading a sampler of Shovels & Rope right now that includes their great song “Boxcar”:

From NoiseTrade:

Shovels & Rope is a Charleston, South Carolina-based duo consisting of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent. They perform as an energetic two-piece band, stirring up a righteous racket with two old guitars, a handful of harmonicas, the occasional keyboard, and a junkyard drum kit harvested from an actual garbage heap and adorned with tambourines, flowers and kitchen rags.

Anderson East

Anderson East, a great performer from Nashville now working on a campaign for his upcoming double album Flowers of the Broken Hearted at PledgeMusic, also has a NoiseTrade download available for free — a 4-song sampler. From NoiseTrade:

Offering up a heaping helping of alternative rock with a healthy dose of timeless Americana influence, Anderson East is a dynamic artist who fuses modern sound with the rich undertones of his southern roots.

Both downloads are highly recommended.

I became a big fan of Anderson East after his gig last June at The Sentient Bean. It was a rich and soulful solo gig — just Anderson and his guitar. I’ve been following the Nashville musician and producer ever since.

About a month later, at Anderson’s urging, my friend Jason and I went to the Bean to check out The Vespers, a great band whose album Anderson produced.

Earlier today, I supported Anderson’s upcoming double album Flowers of the Broken Hearted through Pledge Music, which works pretty much like Kickstarter. When the project is fully funded, my credit card will be charged $25. I’ll eventually get a free download, a signed CD, and a t-shirt.

There are obviously higher levels of support with tempting rewards.

Click here for Anderson East’s page on PledgeMusic. There’s a video there with Anderson describing the campaign.
