{"id":6062,"date":"2013-08-12T22:33:16","date_gmt":"2013-08-13T02:33:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.billdawers.com\/?p=6062"},"modified":"2013-11-04T16:53:43","modified_gmt":"2013-11-04T21:53:43","slug":"black-tusk-at-the-jinx-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.billdawers.com\/2013\/08\/12\/black-tusk-at-the-jinx-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Tusk at The Jinx &#8211; photos"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><div class=\"e26b170012445c56d240655bdd03f7bf\" data-index=\"10\" style=\"float: right; margin:10px 0 10px 10px;\">\n<script async src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:inline-block;width:300px;height:600px\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-5595881567027133\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8268618372\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<br \/>\nAs I noted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billdawers.com\/2013\/08\/07\/black-tusk-new-ep-awesome-new-video-friday-gig-at-the-jinx-in-savannah\/\" target=\"_blank\">in a recent preview post<\/a>, the Savannah-based metal trio Black Tusk took the stage of The Jinx on Friday night for one of their relatively rare local gigs.<\/p>\n<p>The band&#8217;s new EP <em>Tend No Wounds<\/em> is out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.relapse.com\/blacktusktend\" target=\"_blank\">on Relapse Records<\/a> and of course <a href=\"http:\/\/www.relapse.com\/blacktusktend\" target=\"_blank\">available on iTunes<\/a>. The band&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BlackTusk\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook page<\/a> has over 31,000 fans. <\/p>\n<p>Andrew, Athon, and James probably knew most of Saturday night&#8217;s crowd by name &#8212; some of their earliest supporters and closest friends were in the audience. <\/p>\n<p>The bar was pretty much packed, but there was enough room for me to move around pretty easily to get shots from different spots. The lighting was intense at times &#8212; bright reds and bright blues, especially &#8212; so I had to desaturate some of the images for them to read well. Any photographers out there on the route of Black Tusk&#8217;s upcoming tours (they&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BlackTusk\/app_123966167614127\" target=\"_blank\">headed to Europe<\/a> for a month in September and October) are advised to get themselves to the show. The tattoos, the sheer energy, Athon&#8217;s beard and piercing eyes, Andrew&#8217;s long hair, James&#8217; intense gaze, the whole theatricality of metal &#8212; there are plenty of reasons why photographers with good lowlight equipment would want to turn out.<\/p>\n<p>I had a great time listening to Black Tusk live for the first time in quite a while, and I sure had fun shooting the show too.
