The surge capped one of the largest three-month gains the sector has seen since the recession began in December 2007.<\/p>\n<p>The return of construction jobs is an especially critical component of the economic recovery. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s partly because of the sheer number of jobs lost \u00e2\u20ac\u201d more than 2 million since 2007 \u00e2\u20ac\u201d but also because of fears that many of those workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 skills may not translate to other industries, rendering them permanently unemployable.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153These jobs have been the backbone of the middle class for many, many years,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Arne L. Kalleberg, a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and author of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Good Jobs, Bad Jobs.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The following graph from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calculatedriskblog.com\" target=\"_blank\">Calculated Risk<\/a> only covers through August 2012.
