I&#8217;ve been teaching part-time or full-time at Armstrong since 2000.<\/p>\n<p>I just came from the ceremony in the arena &#8212; a predictably upbeat and even joyous occasion despite the gray Savannah morning. <\/p>\n<p>Henry &#8220;Hank&#8221; Huckaby, Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, gave the Commencement Address. A low-key speaker, Huckaby gave one of the more realistic graduation talks that I&#8217;ve heard. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is the business of the future to be uncertain,&#8221; Huckaby said during the speech, which also included quotes from Condoleeza Rice and Lily Tomlin, and a paraphrase of Dr. Seuss. &#8220;The path to your dream job is unlikely to be straight and smooth.&#8221; He noted that the average college graduate of today is predicted to change careers 4 times in their lives &#8212; and obviously to change jobs many more times than that. <\/p>\n<p>A couple of his key bits of advice were for students to have courage and to embrace the detours that life offers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"e26b170012445c56d240655bdd03f7bf\" data-index=\"4\" style=\"float: none; margin:4px 0 4px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\r\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-5595881567027133\";\r\n\/* Another large rectangle *\/\r\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"0042810896\";\r\ngoogle_ad_width = 336;\r\ngoogle_ad_height = 280;\r\n\/\/-->\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"\r\nsrc=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<!--CusAds0-->\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to my former students &#8212; and to all the students &#8212; who just graduated from Armstrong Atlantic State University.
