Dead Confederate’s 3rd LP In the Marrow will be released on April 16th.

From the press kit available on the band’s website:

Please welcome In the Marrow, the magnificent new album from Athens, Georgia’s Dead Confederate. It’s been more than two years since the band’s last full-length, Sugar, the follow-up to the lauded debut, Wrecking Ball, both released by The Artists Organization. But that isn’t to say the gears of Dead Confederate haven’t been humming. Since Sugar, Dead Confederate has navigated the departure of longtime drummer, Jason Scarboro; performed Neil Young’s Tonight’s the Night up and down the East Coast to much acclaim; toured nationally and overseas; released the Sunday Archive Series (18 unreleased tracks provided to fans for free over 18 weeks); and written and recorded In the Marrow as well as last December’s fantastic Peyote People EP, all while tackling individual pursuits.

The following is all from the preview I did about a month ago Roadkill Ghost Choir’s appearance at the Savannah Stopover:

Roadkill Ghost Choir’s music isn’t as dark and strange as the band’s name, but on multiple listens I’ve been almost transfixed by the gritty, southernishness to the rock and roll, combined with some almost ethereal flourishes.

The band from Deland Florida seems poised for a big spring and summer, with the Savannah Stopover, SXSW, and some other high-profile gigs on the books.

Buzzfeed has ranked Roadkill Ghost Choir at #15 on its 30 Under 30: The 2013 SXSW Guide To The Hottest Young Bands.

Check out this great writeup and interview from The Blue Indian, which chose Roadkill Ghost Choir as “band of the month” for February. From that piece:

The boys in Roadkill Ghost Choir have covered some impressive ground over the past nine months. Combined with their non-stop travel on the I-75/16/20 corridors, they’ve gained the attention of media thousands of miles away – most recently, Rolling Stone Germany. The pockets of fans they’ve earned have multiplied and there’s a welcoming party waiting in any of the number of SEC/ACC towns they visit. Based in Deland, Florida, the band was picked up by a young agent in Athens, then eventually a full PR/management team, who helped them take their 2012 release, ‘Quiet Light’, on the road. This band of brothers (quite literally) will be showing up at Savannah Stopover, SXSW, the Governor’s Ball, and a number of other fests around the country and already have a full schedule of club dates on the books. Long hair, don’t care.

For Dead Confederate, 2012 is shaping up to be an interesting year – [quoting Hardy Morris:] “We are label free at the moment, so its kind of like starting anew in a way. Its all a bit fresher and there is excitement for sure. I think, for musicians, its healthy when things are a bit up-in-the-air. Not just, ‘we gotta make a record by some labels deadline.’ We are just glad to be doing our own thing in the studio and able to take our time and get into it. Its great being on our own timeline. We are planning to go have some fun at SXSW for sure, and find the right home for the record at some point. After the record is released we will tour. My side project, Diamond Rugs will be out at SXSW, so I’m sure we will do some sets with both bands out there and tour all of it later in the year.”

Dead Confederate

Along with writing for and recording the new album, Dead Confederate used the last year to dig into a huge collection of old material. Over the second half of 2011, the band used Facebook as a platform to release 18 unreleased home recordings and B-sides in their first installment of their Sunday Archive series. These releases are something they plan to continue going forward, consisting of never-beforeheard tunes released free and direct to the fans followed by limited edition cassette tapes released in volumes. With a new album on the way and a huge collection of older tunes just waiting for release, 2012 will be anything but “quiet” for Dead Confederate.
