I wrote a few days ago about Savannah’s Fashion Night, an event being organized entirely at the local level since Vogue put the nationwide Fashion’s Night Out celebration “on hiatus” for 2013.
Today, the organizers announced the participating retailers for Thursday, Sept. 5th:
24e
BleuBelle Boutique @ The Paris Market
Cardeologie
Copper Penny
Custard Boutique @ ZIA Boutique
Extant Fair
Gaucho
fab’rik
Go Fish Clothing
Goodwill Retail Store
Half Moon Outfitters
J. Parker Ltd.
J Paige Boutique Pop Up Shop
Kathi Rich @ 24 E
Lucy Lu’s Savannah
Marc by Marc Jacobs
Nourish
Paris Market & Brocante
Red Clover @ Chive Sea Bar
Sara Jane Children’s Boutique Pop Up Shop
Satchel.
Savannah Bee Company
Sugar Works Bath & Body
Trunk 13 Boutique Pop Up Shop
Zia Boutique
The ones with an @ in the name indicate businesses that are located off Broughton Street but that are setting up shop in another business for the night.
From the announcement:
We hope an event of this nature will encourage the future participation of other businesses in downtown Savannah and around the creative coast that have not yet become involved.
We urge the public to patronize these SFN APPROVED RETAILERS on September 5th from 6:30 to 11:00pm on Broughton Street between Mongomery and Drayton streets.
Other retailers and other types of businesses might change their hours that night, but retailers had to go through a registration process to be included in the event publicity and in other official ways. Personally, I hope that some of the major chains will choose to be open that night even though they are not officially participating. While those chains could siphon off some business from smaller, locally owned establishments, there will be some dead spots on the street without such participation. It’s a mixed bag. [Update: I neglected to mention that Marc by Marc Jacobs is among the participating retailers. Urban Outfitters, The Gap, Banana Republic, and Kate Spade are not.]
We’ve also gotten word about the bands and DJs that will be performing before and between the fashion shows on the Broughton Street stages:
Stage 1 (not sure which stage is on Broughton at Montgomery and which at Drayton)
DJ Boodoo
Band 1 – Saskatchewan
Band 2 – Make Westing
Stage 2
DJ will rock
Band 1 – Flau’ge
Band 2 – Heyrocco Heyrocco is listed as opening for Savannah’s CUSSES in Philadelphia on this night, so it appears they will not be the second band playing that night on Stage 2 — much to my regret.
Make Westing is the newish project of Lucas Carpenter, the frontman for Deep Search (a band that was particularly popular on the SCAD house party circuit).
Saskatchewan is based in Orlando. Here’s “Occasion”:
I don’t know anything about Flau’ge and can’t find anything online at the moment, but will update this post later.
