Comments on: Why isn’t Savannah more of a “restaurant town”? http://www.billdawers.com/2013/06/02/why-isnt-savannah-more-of-a-restaurant-town/ Tue, 04 Jun 2013 14:59:26 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 By: bill dawers http://www.billdawers.com/2013/06/02/why-isnt-savannah-more-of-a-restaurant-town/#comment-25068 Tue, 04 Jun 2013 14:59:26 +0000 http://www.billdawers.com/?p=5730#comment-25068 In reply to Dave Lake.

You felt so strongly you posted your comment twice! I’ve supported new and inventive restaurants in this town as much as — maybe more than — anyone since I began writing my columns back in 2000. I support our chefs, and I have a lot of great meals around town. But I think we might disagree on how widely the word “great” should be applied, and my comments are about an entire scene, not a list. And I address the demographic issue directly in the post.

Savannah for its size has a greater density of GREAT restaurants than any place I have been. That includes New Orleans, Las Vegas, New York, Boston and I could go on. Let just pick Evansville Indiana which is a town of identical size to Savannah. Find a GREAT meal there and I will eat my words. Yes we are not New Orleans but it is 5 times our size. This comparison is STUPID absolutely STUPID. I for one support our restaurants and chefs who deserve more credit than the both of you are giving them.
