Savannah Stopover releases details for free Forsyth Park concert featuring of Montreal

Savannah Stopover today released the final details about the Forsyth Park concert on Friday, March 8 with of Montreal and Ponderosa Royal Canoe. [Ponderosa is opening for The Whigs on Saturday, sorry.]

It’s a free, all-ages event. The nonprofit beneficiary receiving a portion of beer and wine sales will be Stand Out Youth, which provides support and various resources to LGBTQ young people.

From this morning’s press release:

In addition to the event’s primary sponsors, Savannahnow.com, Savannah Magazine and Visit Savannah, local and regional vendors will offer food and beverages for sale including Leopold’s Ice Cream, Blowin’ Smoke BBQ, SweetWater Brewing Company (the Festival’s official beer sponsor), and Barefoot Wines. There will also be a merchandise area where headliners of Montreal will offer band related merchandise.

Savannah Stopover is also pleased to offer Bike Valet, courtesy of the Savannah Bicycle Campaign. Festival-goers arriving on bike will be able to valet their bikes during the Concert. There will be a designated Bike Valet near the Forsyth Park parking lot where members of the SBC will safely secure bikes until the end of the concert. A ticket will be provided to each cyclist in order to fetch their bike when leaving. In an effort to help encourage more use of bicycles as transportation, the Bike Valet is courtesy of Savannah Bicycle Campaign, however donations are accepted to help support efforts in making Savannah more bike-friendly.

And a few of the most important details:

  • 6 p.m.: Meet up in the park for Stopover music and friends.
  • 7 p.m.: Royal Canoe opens up for of Montreal
  • 8 p.m.: of Montreal hits the stage
  • There will be preferred viewing areas in front of the bandshell for 3-day Festival Passholders, March 8th Day Passholders and a VIP area for Stopover VIP pass holders.

Look for this event to go off more or less on schedule since there are so many acts playing later that night.

of Montreal is known for its theatrical live shows, and it’s simply stunning that Stopover has managed to book them for a free, all-ages show like this.

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be posting quite a number of short previews like this. So far I’ve previewed Stop Light Observations, Mac DeMarco, Little Tybee, Heyrocco, and of Montreal.

By the way, of Montreal is going to be very different on stage than in the following video, but here’s of Montreal’s recent Tiny Desk Concert from NPR:
