Ellis Square in Savannah: an appreciation

Last Friday afternoon, I ran into Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley of Harry Potter fame) in Ellis Square. He was as relaxed and pleasant as the setting itself. (My pictures of Grint on the CBGB set can be found here, here, and here.)

At the same time, there were kids — some tourists, some local — playing in the interactive fountain. A variety of folks were sitting on the benches and at the tables, despite the fairly hot summer day. Others were strolling through.

Remember what Ellis Square used to look like, when it was taken up by a really ugly parking garage?

Here are a handful of shots that I took just yesterday afternoon in Ellis Square. Look at the diversity and the great public uses of the square all going on simultaneously.

I’m assuming these kids are tourists, but I’m not sure. One reading, one silently practicing on the keyboard.
