Tupac Shakur hologram performs at Coachella (video embedded)

Who next? Michael Jackson?

Tupac Shakur has been dead for 15 years — shot to death at age 26 — but he still made a stir at the Coachella Music Festival yesterday.

The hologram of Tupac joined Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg on stage — the image “performed” “Hail Mary” and then was joined by Snoop Dogg for “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted”.

I honestly don’t know what to think of this, but I was always fascinated by the Holodeck on Star Trek . . .

I’ll be curious to hear more of the backstory on this one: is someone marketing holograms like this? who controls Tupac’s image? how were the owners compensated? is Tupac in the public domain?

From the official 2Pac website:

“We worked with Dr. Dre on this and it was Dre’s vision to bring this back to life, It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life.” – Nick Smith, President AV Concepts.

Thoughts?
