The looming — and current — crisis: Americans have $870 billion in student loan debts

Surprisingly, at least to me, Americans over 60 years old have about $35 billion in student loan debts.

The $870 billion in debt is simply staggering, especially considering the reduced earning power of so many Americans since the 2007 to 2009 recession.

Low inflation also works against us in considering the real value of these debts.
