Savannah Stopover band to watch: Speak

I was headed over to the Ships of the Sea Museum garden (a great venue for live music) last Thursday night primarily because I wanted to hear Jukebox the Ghost perform at the Savannah Stopover, but I got there in time to hear Speak, a tight band from Austin.

MTV has characterized the sound as “synth-laden dance-pop” — which doesn’t sound like something I’d normally be interested in — but that seems far too reductive a characterization for Speak, winner of “Best New Band” at The Austin Music Awards.

You can sample and buy Speak’s album I Believe in Everything on Amazon, which was released in fall 2011.

Speak is made up of Troupe Gammage, Jake Stewart, Nick Hurt, and Joey Delahoussaye. I’ll confess it took me a few minutes to get beyond how absurdly young the bandmembers appear to fully appreciate just how talented they are.

Do512 has a thorough list of what Speak is up to this week at SXSW back in their hometown of Austin.
