Cyclists area always on the lookout for that — there are certainly incidents of it around the country, but I ride my bike all the time and that’s the least of my worries. Typically cyclists can see people in the car, can see brake or reverse lights, can see someone actually parking, etc. The bike lane here is also pretty wide — I forget the dimensions — so that there’s room to make a sudden maneuver without going into the travel lane.
