Fashion’s Night Out could make for a great fall kickoff in Savannah

I’ve frankly had some trouble keeping up with all the developments for Fashion’s Night Out in Savannah on Thursday, September 8th.

It could be an AMAZING night, if adequate numbers of shoppers and supporters turn out.

In this post I’m just going to aggregate details and links regarding the official and unofficial events.

The official local website is here.

Here’s a piece from the Savannah Morning News, which details some of the on-street activity:

Not only will Broughton Street be closed down, but there also will be parties and events at almost every intersection.

At the intersection of Jefferson and Broughton streets, South magazine and Vaden Auto will greet participants with their special take on the evening.

At Barnard and Broughton streets, Savannah magazine, Skirt magazine and Savannah Downtown Business Association will put together another fun stop.

The intersection of Bull and Broughton streets will be filled with retailers who wanted to be right in the middle of the walking and shopping fun.

From the 8/22 press release from Cecilia Russo Marketing, LLC:

From Manhattan to Milan, Atlanta to Australia, patrons worldwide will emerge on Thursday evening, September 8, 2011 from 6pm to 11pm for the third annual after-hours shopping extravaganza Fashion’s Night Out. For the very first time, the City of Savannah will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with fashion centers like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago in celebrating this global event. And we invite the public to join us in beautiful historic downtown Savannah for this inaugural event!

Here’s the list of 35 officially participating retailers from that press release:

All of those businesses will be hosting special events, sales promotions, and so forth. You can read about those on the local website or on the official Fashion’s Night Out website, after of course searching for events outside of NYC and then narrowing the field by state and city.

More about the various offerings can also be found at the newsy blog Shop My Savannah.

Fashion’s Night Out Savannah also has an active Facebook page.

All of the retailers listed on the national website paid $250 to register (as I read the info — seems like a lot to me), but there are other things going on that night too:

  • A number of artists have collaborated for the Savannah Windows project.
  • There’s music produced (in part or whole, I’m not sure at the moment) by the Savannah Stopover featuring Local DJs and KidSyc on Broughton at Montgomery from 6 to 11 p.m. There will be a runway fashion show at 10 p.m. produced by Crazy Horse Savannah, owned by part-time Savannah resident and well-respected fashion photographer Doug Ordway, whom I wrote about here.
  • The Savannah premiere of ARTACTIVE’s “The Savangelists” will take place in the store window at Primary Art Supply on Broughton St.
  • Fashion design students of Trellis Payne from the Savannah Arts Academy are partnering with Telfair Museums for an event at the Jepson Center for the Arts, featuring Recycled ReStyled live models, accessories and more. (Artist Betsy Cain talks about her new Jepson at exhibit at 6 p.m. Thursday.)

FNO invitation from Artactive

According to the Cecilia Russo Marketing press release:

FNO Savannah is sponsored by AVIA Hotel, Cecilia Russo Marketing, City of Savannah, Old Savannah Tours, Savannah Magazine, Savannah Stopover Music Festival, Savannah College of Art and Design, Skirt! Magazine, South Magazine, Telfair Museum and The Creative Coast.

If you are traveling to Savannah, don’t forget to mention “FNO Savannah” for hotel and restaurant discounts and deals. Our entire City is happy to welcome all to experience why Savannah is referred to the “hostess City of the South”.

I’ll certainly be out and about Thursday evening and I don’t want to end this post on a downer, but . . . Too bad all of this isn’t happening the following Thursday — SCAD’s fall quarter doesn’t start until this coming Monday. That means a few thousand more potential shoppers and participants would be in town next week than will be this week.

Let’s hope Savannahians turn out in big numbers.
