I’ve been tracking various developments in the world of “green”, sustainability, and transportation generally.
So of obvious note from the AJC: Electric car charging station unveiled.

Atlanta is streamlining its tough permitting procedures to encourage apartment owners, families and businesses to install charging stations for electric cars.
Mayor Kasim Reed, auto dealers and owners of electric cars were on hand Wednesday morning for the opening of the city’s first public solar-powered charging station for electric vehicles at Atlantic Station. Wheego, Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf models competed for space in a grassy parking area as onlookers gawked at low-slung Tesla electric sports cars.
I think it’s clear that we will see more electric cars, but that raises the question of where the electricity is coming from — are we really being “green”?
As I noted in a piece about the Clayton Homes i-house at Green Bridge Farm in Effingham County, it’s obviously possible to use solar power or other types sustainable energy sources to create electricity.
While there are some charging stations already in the general Atlanta metro area, the opening of one in the city itself seems overdue (like so many other things in Georgia). Take a look at this map of the number of stations — and look how far Georgia lags Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.
