The Savannah Stopover monthly series, which has already brought us a great show featuring Givers and another great one with Ashleigh Flynn at The Sentient Bean, continues on June 23rd at 8 p.m. at Cha Bella with Jon Lindsay and his band opening for the Dexter Romweber Duo.
I caught part of Lindsay’s Stopover set back in March. He’s an engaging performer, with sharp lyrics and lovely voice. No surprise here that to find that he won the Readers’ Picks in the Creative Loafing Best of Charlotte 2010 poll for both best local songwriter and best local male vocalist.

It’s obviously good news that acts like Lindsay that made their Savannah debut at the Stopover seem eager to return.

The former frontman for the world famous psycho-surf-rockabilly-garage-punk combo Flat Duo Jets released his first of nine albums in 1990 to rave reviews worldwide. He starred alongside R.E.M. and The B-52s in the 1987 cult classic film “Athens, GA Inside Outâ€. His first national tour in 1990 was as opening act for The Cramps. He was showcased on MTV’s The Cutting Edge and 120 Minutes, starred in the Flat Duo Jets videos “Wild Wild Lover” and “Radioactive Man”, made a stunning performance on Late Night with David Letterman, and has shared the stage with dozens of other rock luminaries including Iggy Pop and the White Stripes.

Cha Bella at the corner of East Broad Street and Broughton Street certainly makes an interesting venue choice. I love that the Stopover is trying to book some various places that haven’t been well-used (like Pei Ling Chan Gallery on MLK) and I’m eager to see how the show works out. There was an excellent turnout, by the way, for Givers, Little Tybee, and General Oglethorpe and the Panhandlers, but the Ashleigh Flynn audience was considerably smaller than I anticipated. But that show was on a Monday, while the upcoming show will be on a Thursday, which is for many people the beginning of the weekend here in Savannah.
